31 Days of Horror Book Covers: #6

#6: Death Dreams – William Katz (Ballantine, 1979)

Out of all the paranormal novels dealing with pissed-off children ghosts, this cover has a bit more atmospheric detail — the dark emerald swamp, the vacated rowboat, and the discarded doll complete with glowing eyes. For a 1979 book cover, this is fairly original – glowing eyes on children became quite the norm as the 1980s took hold, a decade where puberty and self-realization brought on shitloads of angst and terror for a post-Carrie generation.

More to come….
